Abstract:  In this paper, we propose a remote appliance control system using a cell phone. The control system would be designed to control the units at remote location, using web-enabled interface (either GPRS) and remote location would be interfaced to the appliances to the Infrared interface. This idea is extendable to the Bluetooth interface as well instead of Infrared (wherever applicable) but the current paper would be focusing on the Infrared as a remote appliance control.Although it is known that, IR always needs a line of sight and we will need a robust feedback mechanism, to verify the operations, we are not focusing the efforts towards deploying Bluetooth instead of IR is because, practically speaking, most of the home appliances are not Bluetooth enabled today (eg. Refrigerator, TV,Music Player, PC, Heaters etc) and specifically there will be changes required on either ends in case we need to use Bluetooth instead of IR. Hence to us, today, IR looks most suited to be used from applications perspective.
To access the control unit, the user should start with first sending an authentication code along with the desired function to his home control system via GPRS. Upon being properly authenticated, the computing system at home (control unit) would relay the command through IR port to home appliances. The control unit would relay the commands to an IrDA Transceiver that would perform the required action. A return function code (feedback) would be sent to user’s cell phone. This system is the general mobile devices and developed with Java technology. The system controls the home appliances with the mobile device and sees the states of home appliance via Internet. Finally, we demonstrate the system applications examples and share the development and implementation experiences.

Abstract: In the present IT age, we are in need of fully automated industrial system. An embedded web-based interface used for an industry application is designed in this paper. Here two parameters are being measured. One is sensed voltage of each line in the form of analog and then converts it into Digital signal and the second one is to amplification for the driven current, which is monitored and controlled through web. Firstly, hardware part of system is designed by using ATmega-328P chip. Secondly, embedded web server is designed by Java Script and HTML followed by ENC28J60, Ethernet controller chip. Thus the system not only reduces the cost, it provides high performance and also makes utilities to provide accuracy to control. It has an excellent prospect in Industry of new automation application. The main purpose is to operate and control over the heater which are operated at high value of currents in industry. The significant aspect of our Web server is the inter networking between standard network protocols. In fact, the acquisition network sends the acquired data using the RJ-45 serial protocol. These data are then collected into an embedded web server and then interface to the heater. The server (Embedded Web server) can be connected to the Internet in a wired way using the IEEE 802.3 (Ethernet). Finally, the web server uses standard TCP/IP protocols, such as HTTP to manage the web pages through which we can monitor and control the interfaced devices.

Abstract: Advancement in technology is very well reflected and supported by changes in measurement and control instrumentation. To move to high-speed serial from Parallel bus architectures has become prevalent and among these Ethernet is the most preferred switched Serial bus, which is forward-looking and backward-compatible. Great stride have been made in promoting Ethernet use for industrial networks and factory automation. The Web-based distributed measurement and control is slowly replacing parallel architectures due to its non-crate architecture which reduces complexities of cooling, maintenance etc. for slow speed field processing. A new kind of expandable, distributed large I/O data acquisition system based on low-cost microcontroller based web server[1] boards has been investigated and developed in this paper, whose hardware boards use 8-bit RISC processor with Ethernet controller, and software platform use AVR-GCC for firmware and Python for OS independent man machine interface. This system can measure all kinds of electrical and thermal parameters such as voltage, current, thermocouple, RTD, and so on. The measured data can be displayed on web pages at different geographical locations, and at the same time can be transmitted through RJ-45 Ethernet network to remote web based data acquisition and control (DAC) monitoring system by using HTTP protocol. A central embedded single board can act as a central CPU to communicate between web servers automatically. The novelty of this proposed system is a substitute of web PLC for industry application.
